This is an instagram review – how artsy :D Well no, I actually didn’t have my camera with me that day, so I beautified my photos with instagram.

The County General is usually thought of as a brunch hot spot, but Mark and I just so happened to be there for dinner instead. Located at Queen St West & Shaw, The County General is a casual restaurant with a lively atmosphere that emanates, dare I say, a hipster vibe (I heart hipsters).

With no time to waste, we ordered the Trio of Steamed Pork Buns – Avocado chutney, Green Apple Slaw, Kimchi ($14) to start. Mark has had them before, so he generously offered me 2 of the 3 buns, hah! The pork itself is uber fatty, moist, and dee-licous. Tons of flavour and it just melts in your mouth – literally. I mean, how can it not with all that fatty goodness? The avocado chutney was creamy and went well with the pork. The green apple slaw was more refreshing and light, but I have no preference here as I enjoyed both. I didn’t try the kimchi version but I’m pretty sure it was awesome as well. Eating these tiny pork buns can get a little messy, but there’s no shame in licking your fingers in public. Make ‘em proud.

With all the buzz about their Fried Chicken Thigh Sandwich, there was no way I would get away without trying it. Yes, this Fried Chicken Thigh Sandwich with Cumbrae’s Hanger Steak and Roasted Garlic Bone Marrow Butter ($14) doesn’t look sufficent enough to even feed a 3 year old, but really, it filled me up. It’s a bit deceving when you look at it, but the chicken thigh is fairly thick. The skin so crispy, the meat so tender and juicy, the seasoning so perfect – what’s there not to love about it? The fries could’ve been better as they were on the salty side with coarse salt sprinkled on top, but hey, I finished it all so I can’t complain.

Mark ordered the 6oz County Burger with Milk Bun, Mustard, Mayonnaise, and Pickle ($14). He said it was very tasty, so I’ll just take his word for it.

I wouldn’t mind returning to The County General for brunch and chow down their Eggs Benedict, Croque Madame, Corned Beef Hash, and Banana Bread French Toast. I shall be looking forward to them soon.

i went to the county general a month ago! the food was very delicious but i actually thought their service was a bit off. I ordered the fish tacos and it came with this really hot sauce (that looked green) except the server never told us what it was. My friend doused her taco in it and her mouth was on fire!
Haha oh no, I’m sorry to hear about your friend! I agree that the staff should’ve said something about the sauce!
We checked it out in January and lied it.k
Awesome :)
Never seen a review through the eyes of Instagram. Pretty neat. The food looks awesome. I’m definitely going to check it out. Thanks for the post.
Np Ken! Hope you like it!
